Sparring in Zürich – in the evening, once the floor has gone quiet. Or in the afternoon, once the house is empty.

I’m Winn Chelini, an independent confidant and sparring partner in Zürich – not a therapist – for anyone who wants an honest outside view on a decision, a relationship, or a question that has no place in their own circle. I come to your home, your office or the lake, and we talk in English or German.

What people bring in Zürich

A city full of expertise. Few people without a stake.

Zürich runs on professionals. For the company, the taxes, a will or your health, someone who knows the field is easy to find here. Someone who plays no part in your story – not in your family, not at work, not among your friends – is harder to come by.

  • A long marriage

The children are grown up, and from the outside all is well. Home, family and finances are closely intertwined. Whatever is on your mind, you would rather talk it through first with someone who knows neither of you.

  • One inheritance, three siblings

The will has been read, and your parents’ house now belongs to all three of you. Legally, most of it is settled. Who wants what, and why, nobody has said out loud yet.

  • Your parents’ company

The handover has been planned for years, and you could take over. You have not yet told anyone whether you want to.

  • An offer nobody can know about

A move to a competitor, leaving the partnership, a board that may already have decided, stopping two years early. Before you sign or resign, think it through once with someone from outside your industry.

  • New to Zürich

Settled in at work, not yet in life. A conversation in English, with someone outside your new office and your new circle.

  • After many years in one place

Retirement, succession, stepping back from management – and the question of who you are without the role.

  • A father who is rearranging everything

He is over seventy, has a new partner and is changing what held for years. Before you talk to him, you want to sort out what is concern and what is fear – with someone who belongs to neither side.

  • After the sale

The company belongs to someone else; the earn-out runs on. People treat you differently. One conversation with someone who wants nothing from you.

Often it’s both – personal and business. For more examples, and for what sparring is not, see the Sparring page.

From Wetzikon

From outside the city. On purpose.

Zürich feels like a big city. The circles you move in are not. At the club, at your children’s school, at work or across the table at dinner you keep meeting the same people – as neighbours, colleagues, clients or friends of the family. Think out loud there, and someone hears it.

I live and work in Wetzikon in the Zürich Oberland, about half an hour from the city. I’m not part of your circle, either at home or at work, I have no mandate, and nothing to gain from what you decide. That isn’t a drawback. It’s the reason you can speak freely.

What discretion means in practice

  • I record nothing. I keep only brief notes and destroy them no later than 12 months after we finish.
  • I don’t tell anyone that we know each other.
  • I report to no one – not to your family, and not to your employer when the invoice goes to the company.
  • The invoice shows the format and the date, not your subject.

“Confidential – agreed in writing, with its limits stated openly.”

Where we meet

Your office, your home or the lakeside.

You choose the place and I come to you.

On-site sparring

  • At your office

In the evening once the floor has gone quiet, or during the day on a Monday. A meeting room with a closed door is all we need. How you introduce me is up to you.

  • At your home

Seefeld, Hottingen, Fluntern, Enge or anywhere else in the city: no commute for you, familiar surroundings, no audience.

  • A quiet place you choose

Somewhere you know, where nobody is listening in. You name it, I’ll be there.

Walk & talk

Walking side by side rather than sitting face to face – many people think more clearly that way. Three suggestions; we choose the route together, or take one you already know.

  1. By the lake, east shore

From Bellevue along Utoquai to Zürichhorn – and on towards Tiefenbrunnen if we want more time. Flat and open, with the water beside you. Busy on sunny afternoons, quieter in the evening.

  2. By the lake, west shore

From Bürkliplatz past the Arboretum and along Mythenquai towards Wollishofen. The natural choice if you work or live in Enge.

  3. In the woods of the Zürichberg

Forest paths on the Zürichberg and the Adlisberg, just above Fluntern and Hottingen. Quieter than the lake – usually the better choice if you’d rather not run into anyone.

Remote sparring

  • By video or phone

When the week is full, you’re travelling, or for a short follow-up. The same approach, the same confidentiality.

Practical

The essentials at a glance.

Travel time

About 30 minutes to Bellevue

From Wetzikon, outside rush hour. In heavy traffic it’s more like 35 to 50 minutes – I build that into my day, not yours.

Included

Travel anywhere in the city

For on-site sparring and walk & talk, getting to you is included. You pay per session, not per kilometre.

Area

City of Zürich, districts 1 to 12

From Seefeld to Altstetten, from Wollishofen to Oerlikon. For Zollikon, Küsnacht ZH and the rest of the shore down to Stäfa, see Gold Coast. Beyond the city, travel is included within 60 minutes’ drive of Wetzikon – Kilchberg and the west shore, Winterthur and Zug included. Places further away by arrangement.

Times

By arrangement: mostly in the evening, on Mondays also during the day, and on Saturdays and Sundays

A session lasts 60 minutes – in person, on a walk or online; 90 minutes on request. The first, confidential conversation takes about 20 minutes by phone or video and is free.

Languages

English or German, or a mix of both

In the city of Zürich, 13.9% of residents name English as a main language (Statistik Stadt Zürich, 2023). If you think more clearly in English, that’s the language we talk in.

Formats

The same formats anywhere in the city.

You pay per session – no subscription and no package. We can work out which format suits you in the confidential conversation beforehand.

  • 20 minutes

    Confidential conversation

    Phone or video

  • 60 minutes

  • 60 minutes

    Remote sparring

    Video or phone

On site and on a walk, 90 minutes are possible on request. The fee is fixed and depends on the format and the length of the conversation, never on who you are. I tell you what it is in the confidential conversation – before the first session, not after. If you would like it beforehand, I will give it to you by e-mail or phone – no appointment needed.

Questions & answers

Things you may still want to know.

I am thinking about separating. Who do I think it through with before I see a lawyer?

With someone who knows neither of you and does not push a direction – staying or leaving. Before a lawyer, family or friends take sides, we work out what you yourself see and want: what is over, and what is not? What does it mean for the children, the house, for you? I talk only with you; if your partner also wants a counterpart, I name a different professional. Marital property, maintenance and custody belong with your lawyer, and sparring is not couples therapy.

Our parents are getting older, and things are getting difficult between us siblings. Who do I talk to?

With someone who has no role in your family. Who takes care of them, who decides what happens to the family home, who is already getting more – these questions come while the parents are still alive, and they reopen old roles between siblings. In the conversation we work out what you yourself want and what you will say to your siblings, before it turns into a dispute. I talk only with you, not with the whole family. Care arrangements, powers of attorney and inheritance law stay with the specialist services and your lawyer.

I have been offered a board seat. Who do I think through with whether to accept?

With someone who does not care whether you accept. Whoever is asking wants a yes; the people around you mostly see the honour. Your questions are different: why you, and what is really expected? Do you have the time, and towards whom would you face a conflict of loyalty? I have never sat on a board myself and say so openly; I test your reasoning, not the company. Liability, contract and fees you clarify with your lawyer.

After many years here we are thinking about leaving Switzerland. Who do I think it through with?

With someone who gains nothing from any answer. Career, the children’s school, your partner’s job, ageing parents in another country – everyone in the family has their own reckoning, and rarely does anyone say out loud what it is really about for them. We work out what keeps you here, what draws you away and how much of that holds for your family too, before you resign or sell. Tax, pensions and residence stay with your fiduciary and your lawyer.

I am thinking about taking a year off. Who do I clarify with whether that is escape or a plan?

With someone who is neither your employer nor your family. A year off can be the right decision or a way of avoiding another one: what do you want to get away from, and where do you want to go? What does it mean for your role, your partner, the children – and how do you say it at work? We sort that out before you announce it. Employment law, pensions and finances stay with your specialists. I took a year out myself and know what it clarifies and what it does not.

Can we meet early in the morning, in the evening or at the weekend?

In the evening and at the weekend, yes; early in the morning, generally not. By arrangement: mostly in the evening, on Mondays also during the day, and on Saturdays and Sundays. We meet at your home, at your office once the floor has gone quiet, or on a walk. We agree the exact time in the confidential conversation beforehand; the same applies to online sessions.

How confidential is it?

I commit in writing to confidentiality – including the fact that we know each other, and beyond the end of our work. That applies towards all third parties: family, business partners, employers – including the person who referred you. If I already talk with someone from your family, your company or the other side, I decline, without naming anyone. I record nothing, keep brief notes and destroy them no later than 12 months after we finish. There are three limits: a legally binding order from a court or authority, an acute danger to life or safety, and a threat to a child’s welfare. Even then, I speak to you first wherever possible.

Is travel included in the price – even to the Gold Coast or Zug?

Yes. Travel is included in the fee for every on-site and walking session – anywhere within 60 minutes’ drive of Wetzikon, from Zürich and Winterthur to Zug, Rapperswil and Einsiedeln. That covers the city of Zürich and both lake shores, all nine Gold Coast municipalities, Zug, Baar, Cham and Rotkreuz, as well as Wollerau and Pfäffikon SZ. You pay the same whether we meet in Küsnacht ZH, Baar or Wollerau. From Wetzikon I reach the Gold Coast in about 20 to 25 minutes, Pfäffikon SZ in about 25 to 30 minutes and Zug in about 45 to 50 minutes. Lucerne, Meggen and Hergiswil by arrangement; I tell you the travel cost in advance.

Where can we talk without being seen?

Your home, or your office after hours, is where we are least likely to be disturbed; if you prefer walking, choose the woods over the lakeside promenade. On the Zürichberg or Adlisberg you meet fewer acquaintances than by the lake, on the Zugerberg fewer than in Zug’s old town. If you wish, we agree beforehand how you introduce me if anyone asks. If someone does see us, they see two people talking. And if no place suits, we speak by video or phone.

Can we talk in English?

Yes. I work in English and German – and switching between the two is fine if that is easier for you. Use the language in which you can say most precisely what you mean, and change whenever it helps. For international executives in Zug and Zürich, English is often the working language while German is the language of the surroundings; I know both sides and, where useful, help you read Swiss conventions.

Site in German

The confidential conversation. No obligation.

About 20 minutes by phone or video – in the evening or at the weekend, if that suits you better. You don’t need to prepare anything. Afterwards you will know whether my way of working suits you. I read every enquiry myself – from the first contact to the last conversation, you deal with the same person.
