Sparring on the Gold Coast, from Zollikon to Stäfa. At your home.
I’m Winn Chelini, an independent confidant and sparring partner for personal and business questions on the eastern shore of Lake Zürich, known locally as the Goldküste. I come from Wetzikon to your home or office for a confidential one-to-one – or we talk on a walk above the lake, in English or German.
What comes together here
Family, business, succession. Often at the same table.
On the Gold Coast, many people carry responsibility: for a family, for what their parents built, for a company of their own – often for all of it at once, because the personal and the business side can hardly be kept apart. The questions that come out of that are rarely ones you want to raise with the people around you.
When it is all yours now
Your husband always handled the finances. Now there is a mandate from the bank and a proposal from the fiduciary on the table, and each of the children has a view. Before you sign, think it through once with someone who earns nothing from any signature.
Succession and inheritance
Who takes over? How do you tell the others? And what if nobody wants to? Or you are on the other side: you inherit, and everyone seems to know better than you what you should do with it. Specialists draw up the contracts. The conversations that come first are yours to have – and it helps to think them through out loud beforehand.
A long marriage that has gone quiet
Many years together, the children have left home, and suddenly you notice how much has gone unsaid. Before you say anything, you want to see more clearly yourself.
The career you set aside
Years ago you stepped back – for the family, for your partner’s career. Now the house is quiet, and everyone tells you how lucky you are. What you want for yourself is a question of its own, not necessarily one about your marriage.
I moved here for my partner’s job and gave up my own career. Is sparring for me too?
After the sale or handover
The company is in other hands. The diary is emptier, the phone quieter. What holds things together now – and who are you without the role? Or the company has gone to your son or daughter, and since then every conversation about it goes wrong.
At the top of your field
You run a clinic, a finance function, a firm. Everything works, nothing is broken – and still you wonder whether to stop earlier or carry on differently. You can’t think that out loud at work.
Stepping down earlier than planned: is it time, or are you just tired?
Arrived, but not quite at home
You moved here for a role in Zürich. You’ve settled in at work; the rest of life hasn’t caught up yet. And there’s no one here you would talk to about that.
Why someone from outside
Close enough to be there quickly. Far enough away not to be part of it.
People here know each other – from school, from the clubs, from the village, from business. That holds a place together. It also makes it hard to talk openly about things you would rather didn’t get around.
I work from Wetzikon, in the Zürich Oberland. We won’t run into each other at a club, a parents’ evening or in the village on a Saturday. I’m not part of your circle and have no stake in it.
I have nothing else to sell you, I take no commission for referrals, and I don’t benefit whichever way you decide. That’s why I can tell you what I see – even when it’s uncomfortable.
Confidential – agreed in writing, with its limits stated openly.
- I commit in writing to confidentiality – including the fact that we know each other, and beyond the end of our work.
- I record nothing. My brief notes are stored securely and destroyed no later than 12 months after we finish.
- I report to no one – not your family, not your business partners, not your employer.
- Your invoice shows the format and the date, not your topic.
Where confidentiality ends is set out under ‘Confidentiality and its limits’.
Where we meet
At your home. Or a stretch along the lake.
An open conversation needs a place where no one is listening in. On the Gold Coast, that is often simply where you already are.
On-site sparring
At your home
Often the natural choice here. You don’t have to go anywhere, and no one sees you coming or going. I arrive at the agreed time, we talk for 60 minutes without interruption, and then I’m gone. If anyone asks, how you introduce me is up to you.
At your office or a quiet place
Your office on the lake or in Zürich – mostly in the evening, once nobody is left to ask who I am, or during the day on a Monday. Or a quiet place of your choice, away from home and away from work.
Walk & talk
Side by side rather than face to face – talking often comes more easily that way. I know from my own walks how much more clearly you think while walking. Three suggestions, or a route you know:
Along the shore
On the public lakeside paths between the villages. Flat, open, with the water beside you.
Through the Küsnachter Tobel
Up the wooded ravine from Küsnacht, following the stream. Shady, and pleasantly cool in summer.
On the Pfannenstiel
Up on the ridge above the lake: fields, woods and wide views – the lake on one side, the Oberland on the other.
Remote sparring
By video or phone
If it needs to be soon or you’re travelling: 60 minutes, the same approach, the same confidentiality.
Practical
About 20 to 25 minutes to your door. Travel included.
I’m based in Wetzikon, on the other side of the Pfannenstiel. From there, all nine municipalities of the Meilen district are a short drive away.

On site and on a walk, 90 minutes are possible on request. The fee is fixed and depends on the format and the length of the conversation, never on who you are. Questions
Before you call
I’ve come into an inheritance – who do I talk to before the family?
Someone who manages nothing, sells nothing and is not part of the family. After an inheritance, everyone often seems to know what you should do with it: your siblings are part of the same story, the bank earns from the assets, advisers have a mandate. The first question is a different one: what do you yourself want – keep, carry on, share or let go? That is what we talk about, confidentially and without a mandate. Legal and tax matters are for your notary, lawyer and fiduciary (Treuhänder); our conversation comes before theirs and replaces none of them. More in the note Inherited or sold up: who has nothing to gain from you?
I moved here for my partner’s job and gave up my own career. Is sparring for me too?
Yes. Sparring is about your question, not a company or a role. Moving for a partner’s job often costs more than a career: your network, the language of everyday life, the role people knew you in. In the conversation you work out what you want here for yourself, not only what the move asks of the family. I am neither a therapist nor a career adviser; permits, marital property and tax belong with your lawyer and fiduciary (Treuhänder). We talk in English or German, in Zug, on the Gold Coast or online.
I already have a fiduciary, a lawyer and a bank. What does a sparring partner add?
Your specialists answer how something is done; a sparring partner helps you clarify what you actually want – before you brief the specialists. Fiduciaries and lawyers have a mandate and a liability; a bank often also earns on the solutions it recommends. That is legitimate, but not neutral. I have no mandate and no partners at banks, asset managers or law firms, I neither take nor pay commission, and I recommend no products. Often the conversation is about exactly this: putting your questions for the fiduciary and the lawyer in order first.
I am a fiduciary, lawyer or banker. How do I refer a client to you?
Give your client this page or my number and let them call me themselves. Many put it like this: “I know someone you can think this through with calmly – not a therapist, not an adviser.” I tell you nothing, not even whether we met. I neither take nor pay commission, give no tax, legal or investment tips and stay out of your mandate: specialist questions go back to you. Often your client comes back to you with clearer questions. More in the note Your client wants to talk, not therapy.
My husband has died and everyone knows what I should sign. Who do I think it through with first?
With someone who earns nothing from any signature. The bank, the fiduciary and your children mean well, and yet each has an interest or a worry of their own. In the conversation we work out what you want, what you do not yet understand and what to ask the specialists before you sign anything. I review no contracts and recommend no investments; that stays with your specialists. I come to your home, and one conversation is enough if one is enough.
Our marriage isn’t bad, just quiet. Can I think it through on my own first?
Yes. You come alone; your partner hears nothing from me, not even that we know each other. I do not push a direction – staying or leaving. We work out what you yourself see and want before you say anything. The invoice shows the format and the date, not your topic. Marital property and prenuptial agreements belong with a lawyer; sparring is not couples therapy.
Since the inheritance or the sale, everyone behaves differently. Who do I talk to about it?
With someone who wants nothing from you. Friends turn cautious or demanding, the family starts counting, and advisers call who never called before. Then there is your own question: how much of this is really mine now, and what do I want to do with it – or without it? That is what we talk about, confidentially and with nothing to sell. I give no investment or tax advice, have no partners at banks and take no commission. More in the note Inherited or cashed out: who has no stake in you?.
I sit on the family foundation board – or am meant to set up a foundation. Who do I clarify with what I want from it?
With someone who has no interest in the foundation or its beneficiaries. Often the role is inherited or wanted by others: what does the foundation stand for to you, what role do you want in it – and where do you say no, including to your own family? We clarify that before you accept, set it up or step down. Foundation law, supervision and tax stay with your specialists.
After many years here we are thinking about leaving Switzerland. Who do I think it through with?
With someone who gains nothing from any answer. Career, the children’s school, your partner’s job, ageing parents in another country – everyone in the family has their own reckoning, and rarely does anyone say out loud what it is really about for them. We work out what keeps you here, what draws you away and how much of that holds for your family too, before you resign or sell. Tax, pensions and residence stay with your fiduciary and your lawyer.
Who do I talk to about succession before the fiduciary and the family?
Someone who earns nothing from the handover and plays no part in the family – that is what a sparring partner is for. Before the fiduciary, lawyer or notary shape the handover, and before the family takes positions, there is a different question: what do you yourself want – sell, hand over, keep, and on what terms? That is what we talk about, confidentially and without a mandate. Valuation, contract and tax stay with your specialists; with your own position clarified, you give them a clearer brief. That holds even when the more capable person is not the one everyone expects – the daughter rather than the son.
How confidential is it?
I commit in writing to confidentiality – including the fact that we know each other, and beyond the end of our work. That applies towards all third parties: family, business partners, employers – including the person who referred you. If I already talk with someone from your family, your company or the other side, I decline, without naming anyone. I record nothing, keep brief notes and destroy them no later than 12 months after we finish. There are three limits: a legally binding order from a court or authority, an acute danger to life or safety, and a threat to a child’s welfare. Even then, I speak to you first wherever possible.
Is travel included in the price – even to the Gold Coast or Zug?
Yes. Travel is included in the fee for every on-site and walking session – anywhere within 60 minutes’ drive of Wetzikon, from Zürich and Winterthur to Zug, Rapperswil and Einsiedeln. That covers the city of Zürich and both lake shores, all nine Gold Coast municipalities, Zug, Baar, Cham and Rotkreuz, as well as Wollerau and Pfäffikon SZ. You pay the same whether we meet in Küsnacht ZH, Baar or Wollerau. From Wetzikon I reach the Gold Coast in about 20 to 25 minutes, Pfäffikon SZ in about 25 to 30 minutes and Zug in about 45 to 50 minutes. Lucerne, Meggen and Hergiswil by arrangement; I tell you the travel cost in advance.
Where can we talk without being seen?
Your home, or your office after hours, is where we are least likely to be disturbed; if you prefer walking, choose the woods over the lakeside promenade. On the Zürichberg or Adlisberg you meet fewer acquaintances than by the lake, on the Zugerberg fewer than in Zug’s old town. If you wish, we agree beforehand how you introduce me if anyone asks. If someone does see us, they see two people talking. And if no place suits, we speak by video or phone.
Who comes to see you

Engineer, over ten years in engineering and IT projects, latterly as team lead and technical architect; now an independent confidant and sparring partner. Every session is with me personally.

About 20 minutes by phone or video. You don’t need to prepare or explain anything.
